Louis Lequin
Domaine Louis Lequin’s history dates back to 1604. Since 1669, the family has officially owned vineyards, and the domaine now covers 7 hectares spread across Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard, Corton and Nuits-Saint-Georges. For centuries, knowledge has been passed from generation to generation, with each new winemaker carefully prepared to carry on the tradition.
More than 90 per cent of the vineyards are dedicated to Pinot Noir from Santenay, the true backbone of the domaine. In addition, Lequin has smaller plots in Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, as well as highly exclusive plots that produce wines of unprecedented class. These include a rare Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru and a refined Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, which reflect the character of their terroir to perfection.
Louis Lequin stands for uncompromising quality and a deep connection to the soil. The Pinot Noir is pruned using the Cordon de Royat method, which reduces yields but ensures optimal aeration and ripening. The result is more colour, more intense aromas and unparalleled depth. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, while grass grows between the vines to protect the soil and keep the ecosystem in balance. Even hoeing between the vines is done with care to keep the soil alive and the roots reaching deeper. This is winemaking at the very highest level – where every bottle bears the unmistakable signature of the terroir.
Sustainability and respect for nature are at the heart of the domaine. It is therefore no surprise that Louis Lequin’s wines are among the absolute best. Praised by luminaries such as Robert Parker, Hugh Johnson and Clive Coates, they have been included in the prestigious selections of the Nouvel Observateur and the Guide Hachette des Vins, which recognise Lequin as one of France’s 500 best winemakers.
