Prieuré Roch
Prieuré Roch is among Burgundy’s most idiosyncratic and intriguing domains. Founded in the late 1980s by Henry-Frédéric Roch, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the domaine quickly became a cult name among lovers of pure, unfiltered Burgundy. From Vosne-Romanée, Roch built a domain radically distinguished by its philosophy: minimal intervention, maximum expression of terroir. After his death in 2018, the work is continued by his closest team, fully in line with his vision.
Prieuré Roch’s wines are scarce and sought-after. The domaine owns parcels in some of the Côte de Nuits’ most prestigious appellations, including Clos de Bèze, Clos Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges. In addition, the monopole Clos des Corvées is one of the house’s iconic wines. Total production is limited, partly due to extremely low yields and rigorous selection. This makes the wines hard to come by and highly sought after among connoisseurs worldwide.
Prieuré Roch’s working methods are uncompromising and outspoken. It works completely biodynamically, with great attention to life in the vineyard. In the cellar, they opt for whole bunches, spontaneous fermentation and ageing without excessive influence of new wood. Sulphite use is kept to a minimum and the wines are often bottled unfiltered. The result is a style distinguished by intensity, depth and an almost raw purity. Prieuré Roch is not a classic Burgundy, but a distinct interpretation of terroir – quirky, energetic and uncompromising.
