Vosne-Romanée

Vosne-Romanée constitutes one of Burgundy’s most prestigious and mythical appellations. Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits – between Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Échezeaux – the appellation enjoys an almost legendary reputation. Only red wines made from Pinot Noir are created here. Wines that are regarded worldwide as the ultimate expression of Burgundy terroir, power and refinement.

Vosne-Romanée wines are distinguished by their deep colour, intense aromatic complexity and silky smooth structure. In the nose, ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry dominate, often interwoven with floral notes of violets, exotic spices, incense and subtle earthy accents. On the palate, the wines are powerful but perfectly balanced, with velvety tannins, depth and an exceptionally long finish. With ageing, they develop an almost sensual complexity of truffle, game, leather and spiciness.

The vineyards are situated on east to south-east facing slopes at around 250 to 300 metres altitude. The soils consist mainly of limestone with a high proportion of clay, which provides both structure and aromatic richness. The appellation is home to some of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards in the world, including Romanée-Conti, La Tâche and Richebourg, complemented by a range of exceptional Premier Cru climates.

With only about 150 hectares of vineyard, Vosne-Romanée is relatively small, but its concentration of top terroirs is unrivalled. The wines combine power, elegance and mystique and are among the most sought-after and collectible Bourgognes. Vosne-Romanée is therefore considered the ultimate reference point for those who want to understand the essence of great Pinot Noir.
