Bruno Lorenzon

Bruno Lorenzon took over his parents’ winery in 1997 after working as a wine consultant all over the world for several years. During this time, he developed his own style and gained a deeper understanding of the terroir of the family winery. Before taking over the winery, he also worked as a cooper. He made and selected the wooden barrels that the wines were aged in. This background gave him a unique perspective on how wood can affect the structure and finesse of wine.

The vineyards of Domaine Lorenzon cover around 5 hectares and are located in Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise. More than 4 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir, the rest is dedicated to Chardonnay. The vineyards benefit from a southern exposure. The soil is a mixture of limestone and clay, which gives the wines their characteristic minerality.

Lorenzon believes in a return to 19th century winemaking with minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Yields are deliberately kept low and the grapes are grown according to organic principles. Everything is harvested by hand so that only the best grapes reach the cellar.

The wines are known for their purity, elegance and subtlety. Unlike some traditional winemakers in Burgundy, Lorenzon believes that the use of wood should never overshadow the essence of the wine. Yields vary from one vintage to the next, and each vintage has its own unique character. With his commitment to quality and terroir, Bruno Lorenzon has established himself as one of the best producers in Côte Chalonnonne.
