Domaine de Villaine

Domaine de Villaine is located in Bouzeron, in the Côte Chalonnaise. It is renowned for its refined, terroir-driven style and for the leading role it has played in elevating the region. Domaine de Villaine is the estate of Aubert de Villaine, best known as the co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

Aubert de Villaine chose to settle in the quiet village of Bouzeron. Despite his work in the Côte de Nuits, he found the time to make wine in the Côte Chalonnaise as well. Years of studying this unique terroir turned him and his wife Pamela into pioneers of one of Burgundy’s last forgotten enclaves. The most distinctive grape grown here is Aligoté Doré — not just any variety, but the star of Bouzeron: the only official Aligoté appellation.

In 2010, Aubert was honoured with the prestigious “Man of the Year” Award by Decanter Magazine — an accolade he, modest as he is, would have preferred not to accept. Today, the domaine is run by his nephew Pierre de Benoist, who upholds the same dedication to tradition and excellence.

At Domaine de Villaine, organic viticulture is central. No pesticides or herbicides are used, and fertilisation is limited to organic compost. This ensures healthy grapes of the highest quality. The domaine produces a beautiful range of wines: Bouzeron, Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise, Rully, Rully Premier Cru and Mercurey. Each one is an elegant Burgundy with finesse and character — a pleasure to drink.
