Saint-Véran

A Village appellation from the Mâconnais region. Saint-Véran is often mentioned in the same breath as Pouilly-Fuissé. The appellations are therefore adjacent to each other. Rich – sometimes complex – wines that can be deep gold in colour. Aromas of almond, hazelnut, peach, brioche and honey. Only white wines come from this appellation, obviously made from Chardonnay.

From pale to deep gold, brilliant and crystal clear. In the nose, subtle fruit aromas of peach, pear or acacia. But also warm notes of fresh almond, hazelnut, cinnamon, butter and sometimes honey. Exotic fruit is often present, the warm summers do provide this. On the palate, this white wine is dry and well-rounded, mineral (flint) and lively from the first onset. The appellation dates back to 1971 and comprises seven villages: Chânes, Chasselas, Davayé, Leynes, Prissé, Saint-Vérand and Solutré-Pouilly.

Mediterranean influences are evident in the Mâconnais, with higher temperatures than in the northern departments of Burgundy. The soil consists of fossil limestone that is almost identical to that of the northern Côte d’Or. The vines are planted on slopes on clay and limestone soils of Jura origin. The hills are incised by small steep streams. The vines are at altitudes of 200 to 300 metres. This appellation covers almost 750 hectares.
