Xavier Yverneau

Xavier Yverneau is a young winemaker working in a young appellation. After years of following in the footsteps of his family of winemakers, he founded his own domaine in Vézelay in 2022. The domaine, located in Saint-Père sous Vézelay, covers almost 2 hectares and is the only vineyard in the area. Yverneau is restoring vineyards once lost to the devastating phylloxera (phylloxera). The vines grow on a clay-limestone slope. Ideally south-west facing.

In 2023, Yverneau expanded his working area to Yonne, with parcels in Vermenton and Irancy. In addition to his focus on Chardonnay, he is now also turning to Pinot Noir, resulting in an elegant, fruity and earthy Irancy, first released in late 2024.

Yverneau’s work is entirely rooted in respect for the environment and the terroir. The aim is to do full justice to the wine, the terroir and the plots. This means that grapes are harvested by hand, minimal intervention takes place, and herbicides are not used. Sulphite is kept to a minimum and only the grapes’ natural yeasts are used. Xavier makes his wines in small batches, with only 4,100 bottles of the Vézelay annually. Each bottle is numbered and aged in French oak. The wines have excellent storage potential.
