Domaine Bessin-Tremblay
Domaine Bessin-Tremblay is run by Jean-Claude and his son Romain Bessin-Tremblay. In 1989, Jean-Claude inherited the vineyards in the picturesque hamlet of La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, located in the heart of Chablis, from his father-in-law. Originally trained as an architect, Jean-Claude decided to follow his passion for wine and devote himself entirely to the family business. The estate owns plots in some of Chablis’ most prized vineyards, including Fôret, Fourchaume, Montmains and Valmur. These plots form the basis for their three appellations: Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru.
Since their first harvest in 1992, the domaine has undergone an impressive evolution. Jean-Claude restructured the vineyards and refined his vinification methods, resulting in wines of exceptional quality. The wines of Bessin-Tremblay are known for their power and complexity. The domaine boasts two hectares in Valmur, one of the top vineyards in Chablis. This vineyard contains the domaine’s oldest vines, planted in 1947. Equally important is its strategic location: the plot is on the south side of Valmur, with vines facing north-west, which ensures optimal ripening of the grapes.
All grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected and taken to the cellar in 20-kilo crates to avoid damage. In the vineyards, the soil is ploughed, making the use of herbicides completely unnecessary. Fermentation takes place in neutral wood and stainless steel tanks, lasting no less than 18 months. This long ageing creates the special length and structure that characterise the wines of Bessin-Tremblay, as well as a wonderful complexity resulting from both the terroir and the patient vinification.
