Domaine Jean Grivot
Jean Grivot is among the great – somewhat quiet – names in Burgundy. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine has known its modern form since 1959, when Jean Grivot expanded and refined the family estate. Today, the domaine is headed by his son Étienne Grivot, but Jean’s philosophy and style are still the foundation.
The domaine comprises around 15 hectares, with vineyards in some of the Côte de Nuits’ most prestigious appellations. The focus is almost entirely on Pinot Noir, sourced from old vines in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and top Grands Crus such as Clos de Vougeot and Richebourg. Low yields ensure concentration without heaviness.
The work in the vineyard is extremely precise. Great attention is paid to soil life, manual labour and strict selection at harvest. Chemical intervention is kept to a minimum, with the aim of harvesting grapes that reflect their terroir as purely as possible.
In the cellar, Grivot takes a classic but refined approach: gentle extraction, long ageing and carefully dosed use of new wood. The wines are powerful but never unwieldy, with depth, structure and striking freshness. They combine authority with elegance and are among Vosne-Romanée’s most enduring wines.
