Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg is among Burgundy’s most respected winemakers. Its history dates back to the 1930s, when the Mugneret and Gibourg families joined forces. Since then, the domaine has become a fixture in Burgundy. Today, the third generation – with Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée Mugneret – is at the helm. Silently, but with great precision, they continue to build on the house’s reputation.

The domaine comprises around 9 hectares, mainly planted with Pinot Noir, spread across some of the Côte de Nuits’ most sought-after appellations. The core is in Vosne-Romanée, with additional plots in Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges and the mythical Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin. The vines are of average age – some over 50 years – which provides natural concentration and complexity.

In the vineyards, Mugneret-Gibourg works with great respect for soil and plant. Chemical pesticides are avoided, harvesting is done by hand and yields are deliberately kept low. The focus is on healthy grapes and the purest possible expression of the terroir. Not forcing, but guiding.

That philosophy continues in the cellar. Vinification is classic and restrained: partly whole bunches, gentle extraction and long, quiet maturation in oak, with only a limited proportion of new wood. Everything is focused on balance, texture and transparency. Technology serves the wine, never the other way around.

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg’s wines are known for their refinement and precision. They combine elegant red fruit with floral notes, spiciness and a silky structure. Young, they are already remarkably pure and harmonious; with ageing, they gain depth and complexity, without ever losing their finesse. These are wines that do not impress with power, but with balance and length.
