Domaine Philippon Frères

Domaine Philippon Frères is based in La Chapelle Vaupelteigne. A small village with less than 100 inhabitants located in the Serein Valley, about five kilometres north of Chablis. This village is one of the 19 villages that make up the world-famous Chablis appellation. The Domaine has been a family business for generations, with craftsmanship and tradition at its centre.

Its history dates back to 1915, when Aimé Philippon took over the estate after his father’s death. In the 1950s, his sons Jacques and Francis joined the business. In 1978, they took over the management together with their wives. Today, Domaine Philippon Frères has around 25 hectares of vineyards. 15 hectares are used for Chablis, 6.5 hectares for Chablis Premier Cru and 3.5 hectares for Petit Chablis.

The terroir at Domaine Philippon Frères is unique and consists of rocky subsoil with deposits of small fossilised oyster shells. It is reminiscent of Burgundy once lying under a primeval sea, giving the wines their unmistakable minerality.

After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and cold fermentation begins to extract as many flavours as possible. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at low temperatures, resulting in dense, fresh and refined wines. All vinification takes place exclusively in the vineyard, so the Philippon family retains full control over the wines and their character and quality. The result is a beautiful classic Chablis that is also affordable.
