Chambolle-Musigny

A relatively small Village appellation in the Côte de Nuits. One where only red wines are produced. Chambolle-Musigny wines are often considered the most ‘feminine’ wines of the Côte de Nuits. The wines are elegant and subtle with a ruby red colour. A colour that darkens with age. The wines have a bouquet of red fruit and blossom. Additional notes like herbs or truffle follow after the years. Chambolle-Musigny is considered a rich wine with silky tannins.

Chambolle-Musigny is a small village with less than 350 inhabitants. The village is famous for its exceptional vineyards, for example those of Les Musigny. The neighbouring villages are also famous. Think, for example, of Grands Echézeaux, Clos de Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée. Needless to say, this is the epicentre of prestigious red Bourgognes. The AOC dates back to September 1936, making it one of the first French vineyards to be so designated.

The soils in Chambolle-Musigny consist of hard limestone with many cracks, in which roots can reach deep. The slopes are about 250 metres above sea level. Boulders and gravel in the valley floor provide good drainage. The appellation is relatively small, covering about 150 hectares. There are 24 climats classified as Premier Cru, in total the Premier Cru vineyards cover over 50 hectares.
