VAT
Prices are shown including VAT. Next to it – in miniature – is the excluding VAT price. Most bottles are subject to 21% VAT. This VAT can possibly be reclaimed if ordered on a business basis. Some bottles are subject to 0% VAT (bottles from private collections). In that case, no VAT can be reclaimed. When ordering, a VAT invoice is always provided for your own administration.
Margin scheme
If a bottle of wine was previously sold to a private individual, VAT was paid on it at that time. When it is sold to us, the private individual may no longer charge VAT, and the wine is therefore purchased by us without VAT. We then offer these wines under the so-called margin scheme. No VAT is then stated on the invoice. More information on margin goods and the application of the margin scheme can be found on the website of the tax authorities.
Outside the EU
Customers from outside the EU have what are known as ‘tax-free’ sales. This means free of VAT. These tax-free sales are automatically displayed based on location. The website works with ‘geotargeting’, which automatically recognises the country you are ordering from. Prices are adjusted accordingly if necessary. For example, VAT is waived for countries such as Switzerland, Norway, the United States and Japan. The prices are then automatically displayed lower. Any import tax and/or customs clearance charges may still apply. We advise customers from outside the EU to check themselves what import duties may apply to them.
